DON'T test these items at the retail counter!
What not to test at the makeup retail counter.
There are so many germs going around at these counters and for some items there is no such thing as safe use.
Mascara is a no no in all situations. You can catch infections as well as even getting lice. Even though there are disposable wands right next to the mascaras I have only maybe seen about 1 out of ten people using them.
2. Anything with an applicator
This includes concealer with the felt tip, lipglosses etc.
Germs, germs, germs everywhere! Again just like with the mascaras most people test directly on their skin!
IF YOU DO NEED TO TEST THESE ITEMS (1 & 2) ASK THE RETAIL ARTIST TO OPEN A NEW ONE FOR YOU.
Items you can use, but only if they are thoroughly cleaned:
Lipstick - Dip in alcohol & wipe a layer off with a tissue to ensure no germs.
Pencils - Dip in alcohol, wipe and sharpen.
Powders (eyeshadow, blush etc.) Wipe with a tissue. A powder is the safest to use as bacteria does not grow in it.
Foundation is usually safe to use when it is in a bottle and you can't dip your brush/ finger into it.
So next time when you do go to the store to test makeup be sure to ask the artist to test with new items and make sure they clean the other items thoroughly.
